### When do I issue a credit note?

When you refund a client, correct an invoice error or cancel part of an order after invoicing.

### Should I reference the original invoice?

Yes. Mention the invoice number in the notes so both documents can be matched.

### Can a credit note cancel an invoice completely?

Yes. Credit the full amount to cancel it, or a smaller amount to correct part of it. Amounts show as negative so the reduction is clear.

### Do I need to send a credit note to the client?

Yes. Send it so both sides can update their books. In many countries it also corrects the VAT you reported.
