> Drop an XRechnung, UBL, CII or ZUGFeRD PDF. See if it passes the official rules, and read it as a normal invoice.

## How the check works

The file is checked with the same Schematron rule sets that Germany's KoSIT office publishes for XRechnung 3.0.2, plus the European EN 16931 base rules. The check runs on our server with a JavaScript engine, so no Java is involved.

A ZUGFeRD or Factur-X PDF is a normal PDF with an XML invoice attached. We read the attached XML and check that, because the XML is what counts as the e-invoice.

### XRechnung

Checked against EN 16931 and the German XRechnung rules, including the buyer reference and seller contact that German public bodies require.

### Peppol BIS Billing 3.0

Checked against EN 16931 and the Peppol rules, without the German-only extras.

### Plain EN 16931

Files that follow the European standard without a national profile are checked against the base rules only.

### ZUGFeRD and Factur-X

The EN 16931 profile is checked. The lower profiles (MINIMUM, BASIC WL, BASIC) are shown but not checked.

## Common questions

### Is the file stored?

No. The file is read in memory to run the check and is not saved or logged. Results are not cached.

### Is a PDF an e-invoice?

A plain PDF is not. Under German VAT law an e-invoice is a structured file that follows EN 16931. A ZUGFeRD or Factur-X PDF counts because it carries that structured XML inside.

### What does "passes the rules" mean?

No rule in the published EN 16931 and XRechnung or Peppol rule sets was broken. It does not say that amounts, tax treatment or the buyer's data are right for your case.

### Why was my file "not checked"?

The file names a profile we have no rules for, or a Factur-X level below EN 16931. We show what we can read from it, but we do not call it valid.

### Can I check an e-invoice I received?

Yes. Drop the XML or the ZUGFeRD PDF. The viewer shows seller, buyer, line items, VAT and payment details so you can read it without special software.

### Is there a limit?

Guests can run 10 checks a day, free accounts 30, and paid plans 500. The limit exists because every check uses server time.
