PDF to e-invoice

Convert an invoice PDF into an e-invoice

Upload an old invoice. We read it, you fill in what an e-invoice needs and the PDF did not have, and you download a file that passes the official rules.

OutputStep 1 of 2: Target standard

Invoice file

Max: 8 MB

Pasted text is read by AI, so check the result closely.

Files are sent for reading and are not stored. Only the type and duration of a read are counted.

Your original PDF is not changed. The e-invoice is built from the data you review. A technical check is not legal or tax advice.

Workflow

How it works

An e-invoice is a structured file, not a picture of an invoice. Converting a PDF means reading its data, adding what is missing, and writing a new structured file.

We never edit your PDF. The XML and the ZUGFeRD PDF are built from the data you reviewed on this page, then checked against the same rules as our validator.

1. Read

Upload the PDF or photo. We read the sender, buyer, lines, tax and bank details.

  • OCR + layout reading
  • IBAN extraction

2. Fill in the gaps

Old invoices rarely have a buyer reference, a seller contact or a phone number. We list what your chosen output needs.

  • Buyer reference
  • VAT ID and contact

3. Check

The file runs through the official EN 16931 and XRechnung or Peppol rules. You only get a download once it passes.

  • EN 16931 rules
  • XRechnung / Peppol rules

4. Download

Take the XML, or a ZUGFeRD PDF with the XML inside. You can also verify the result in the free validator.

  • UBL 2.1 / CII output
  • ZUGFeRD XML embedded

Clear answers

Common questions

Does the converter change my original PDF?

No. It reads the PDF and builds a new e-invoice from the data you review. The ZUGFeRD PDF is drawn again from that data.

Why does it ask for a buyer reference and a contact person?

XRechnung requires them, and most old invoices do not have them. Peppol and ZUGFeRD need fewer fields, so the list changes with the output you choose.

Is a PDF an e-invoice?

A plain PDF is not. Under German VAT law an e-invoice is a structured file that follows EN 16931. A ZUGFeRD PDF counts because it carries that structured XML.

Who can upload a PDF or photo?

Reading uploaded files is part of the Pro plan. On the free plan you can paste the invoice text, which is read by AI.

Is my file stored?

No. The file is sent to be read and is not kept. We only count that a read happened and how long it took.

Is the result legally valid?

The file passes the published technical rules. Whether it suits your recipient or your tax situation is your call. Read our guide or ask your tax adviser.
